SUARAJATIM – Arthur James Rusli is starting to turn heads after stepping onto the international stage at the Australian Master 2026. The young golfer from Surabaya completed his overseas debut with a performance that showed strong potential against global competitors.
"As a parent, I am very proud. Seeing Arthur overcome his nervousness and stay focused despite the difficult bunker challenges is an incredible achievement. This is an important foundation for his future development," said Anthony.
Competing abroad was not a random decision. The tournament served as his first real test in an international environment, where course conditions and competition levels are significantly different. Facing more experienced players forced Arthur to quickly adjust both mentally and technically.
On the opening day, nerves became his biggest challenge. He had to compete against players from various countries, many of whom had stronger physical presence and more experience. The situation demanded composure and focus from the very beginning.
Adapting to the course was another hurdle. With only one practice round available, Arthur had limited time to understand the layout. The bunkers were thicker, and the rough was far more demanding compared to courses in Indonesia.
This experience gave him valuable insight into the demands of international tournaments. Players are expected to be more independent in managing their game, reading conditions, and making decisions on the course.
His father, who accompanied him in Australia, witnessed significant growth in Arthur’s mindset throughout the tournament. Stepping outside his comfort zone is seen as a major step toward becoming a professional athlete.
"My target going forward is to play better, be more consistent, and achieve under-par scores. I also want to compete in more international tournaments and aim for the US Kids Championship," Arthur said.
This appearance marks a promising start for a young golfer from Surabaya aiming to compete at a higher level. The experience in Australia now serves as a strong foundation for his next challenges on the global stage.
